Why It Is So Hard To Recruit Great Sales Staff?
It’s a puzzle. There are lots of great salespeople almost everywhere, but they are very hard to attract and recruit. In this post, I will explain this phenomenon and tips on what you can do about it.
The company is pulling out the stops. to recruit a great salesperson
If you put an ad on a job board for a clerk or a painter, you’ll probably get lots of applicants right away. You’ll probably get good applicants as well. BUT if you place an ad for sales staff, you’ll probably get very few responses, and those who do respond may not be the quality you are seeking.
Here’s why.
Great salespeople are rarely looking for a job. That’s because they usually get recruited by a client or a competitor who admires their performance. In my entire life as a salesperson, I never looked for a job. I always had a great job offer before I considered leaving my job. And most salespeople I know have had the same experience.
But Wait…There’s More
A great salesperson would probably never use a job board or recruiter to find them a job. They. probably would get on the phone and start setting up interviews or they might visit companies they want to work at and walk in. Why would a great salesperson need an intermediary to find a great job?
But The News Is Even Worse
When you have too few salespeople at your company, they call the shots. They know you can’t fire them because you are already short-staffed and you haven’t been able to recruit replacements.
